2008 Georgia's Legacy; Older Women! Active & Alive; Past Sixty Five!

Georgia Commission on Women, its partners and supporters, held the fifth annual G.L.O.W. event on March 19, 2008, celebrating Women's History Month by honoring ten Georgia Women past the usual age of retirement who, instead of stopping, stepped up to accomplish outstanding, productive work, making a difference in Georgia! Commission members, the honorees and those who nominated them, friends and family gathered in Atlanta for an Awards Luncheon at Mary Mac's Tea Room.

Honorees were presented by those who nominated them, giving highlights of their achievements and telling why they were nominated. They were:

  • Nancy Briska Anderson of Macon, presented by Idella Moore
  • Melba Belcher of Cochran, presented by Rep. Jimmy Pruett
  • Annette Bowling of Albany, nominated by Elizaabeth Klemann, presented by Lou Johnson
  • Mary Long of Atlanta, presented by Rita Samuels
  • Anne Olson of Decatur, nominated by Luz Borerro
  • Julie Ousley of Rome, nominated by Sharon Baker and Amy Astin
  • Kristina Simms of Perry, nominated by Gail Buckner
  • A. Louise Staman of Macon, presented by Nellie Duke
  • Idelle C. Walker of Eastman, nominated by former Speaker Terry Coleman
  • Barbara Wylly of Atlanta, nominated by Senator Nan Orrock and Gail Buckner
