2008 Georgia Woman of the Year

2008 GA Woman of the Year honoree - Natasha Trethewey - Pulitzer Prizewinning Poet

On Tuesday, July 29th, Pulitzer Prizewinning Poet Natasha Trethewey was honored as 2008 Georgia Woman of the Year. Pictured with Ms Trethewey at Mary Mac's Tea Room are left to right, Nellie Dunaway Duke, Commission Chair, who also chairs Georgia Woman of the Year Committee, Inc, Commissioner Bette Rose Bowers (who nominated Trethewey), Poet and Emory University Professor Natasha Trethewey and Gainesville State College's Dr. Mary Lou Frank, Woman of the Year Committee Vice- Chair.

Ms. Trethewey was chosen at the March annual meeting of WOY, Inc. Invitations to the reception and banquet at 103 WEST Restaurant in Atlanta, were mailed in June. At least six $1,000 scholarships were awarded at the event, to women enrolled in Georgia colleges and universities.
